I was told in A-level P.E. that if you drink caffeine before you do cardio exercise it will aid the loss of fat. don't know how true this is but my teacher told me?

Hi Rob, Good luck with getting back to work. I don't know a lot about what you're asking but I believe there are people called "Disability Employment Advisors" who work at Job Centres, who should be able to help.

RE: What do you do if you are half way through a d, Posted 19 Jun 2008

I guess my view on this is, If what you are doing is not what you want then change it, we only have one real shot at happiness, and success is not the only thing worth achieving, there is more to life than we think and happiness is something worth chasing. We have to remember though that levels of happiness differ from person to person so what I really mean is, be true to yourself to find inner peace contentment, and fulfillment

RE: I find that when I am down swimming really hel, Posted 16 Jun 2008

I agree that exercise is great when you are feeling low. It can be so hard to get going initially but I certainly feel more positive after swimming, a walk or even just achieving some of the domestic tasks I have been putting off. It helps me sleep better too.

getting back to work when receiving benefits, Posted 12 Jun 2008

Hi, I am currently exploring the possibilities of returning to work when in receipt of income support/incapacity benefit. I am unclear about the amount that can be counted as "therapeutic" work before benefits are lost. It is such a big step returning to work after a long period of illness, part time hours would be ideal initially but I am not sure how to go about it. Any suggestions on where I can get good info on this?

Regular, not heavy drinking, Posted 20 May 2008

Hi, I find I have a few beers most nights after work. I don't get very drunk, but the total adds up to almost a couple of dozen a week, especially if I have a few extras over the weekend. Does anybody else do this, and what do you think about it?

RE: The EI teams are fantastic. It can be very..., Posted 17 May 2008

I think looking in the diary and saying 'got to get this done...' and then just doing it without really meaning it is understandable - yes - but not acceptable. The NHS seems to be full of people like this - they turn up because they get paid and then they go home, to do what they want to. I don't think feeling undervalued is an excuse for anything - it is up to the carer to make the very most of each situation, as an ethical choice.

RE: The EI teams are fantastic. It can be very..., Posted 13 May 2008

That's a nice thing to say Martin. As a worker in one of the EI we try but sometimes events or situations get in the way of the this. No health professional would enter their caring profession to see people as objects or processes but I can understand how in certain circumstances that could happen. Probably in a closed environment, with a stressed team, that has inadequate supervision (management and clinical) feeling undervalued. People there would look in the diary and think, "got to get this done....."

RE: The EI teams are fantastic. It can be very..., Posted 22 Apr 2008

Hey Martyn Can you tell us exactly how things got less daunting? And what 'treating you as a person' means to you? You may think this is obvious I guess but I'd really like to know what you think. For me, often when I get to feel down it is because I think I am not being noticed in a humane way. It is easy to feel this way in the English culture - which is one big reason why I left to go overseas. So for me being treated as a person does not mean being respected or listened to or whatever, it basically means looking at someone looking at me and thinking 'this person knows I am a person too' - an acknowledgement of a shared condition. Nothing much and everything at the same time I hope that does not sound OTT.

The EI teams are fantastic. It can be very daunting at first, having all these professionals focusing on you, but they're really good at putting people at ease and seeing people as 'people' and not 'patients'.

Being interested in other people offers you new ways to view yourself. I have a good friend who is currently fighting cancer. He's still surfing! I recall what the playwright Dennis Potter said in his final interview before he was finally exhausted by the disease....something like this.....I looked out of my window this morning and the blossom had arrived. It was the blossomest, blossomest, blossom I have ever seen.

Hi, just wondering what things people have tried to deal with voices? I tend to ignore mine, and distract myself if I can. I know that some people schedule times to listen to the voices, or people respond to the voices. Just wondering what people find most effective?

Caffeine and weight loss, Posted 10 Mar 2008

Does anybody know what the effects of caffeine are on weight loss? I have heard conflicting points of view. This website (http://www.teeccino.com/weightloss.aspx) says caffeine increases appetite which leads to weight loss. It also aggravates stress levels which cause many people to turn to food. I'm looking through for the actual physical effects with regard to retaining weight.

RE: NEWSNIGHT 13.12.07, Posted 16 Jan 2008

Hi Emma...crikey, a month has passed, lost in boozy christmas oblivion......no, not quite. It is about escape and a feeling of wellbeing to some extent I guess but kind of conversely it actually dulls the senses. So maybe it's more to do with filling a gap left by a loss of belief in something good, an innocence maybe, a relationship with nature? I'm thinking out loud here....
