Coping , Created 13 May 2008
People cope with their experiences in a variety of ways. Everyone who faces difficulties will attempt to change something to make it easier; we may speak to family or friends, reach for a cigarette or a drink, go out for a walk, or scream and shout!
This is equally true is psychosis; some of these ways of coping are helpful and some of these add to the person's problems. Some of the ways people have tried to cope with their experiences or have found helpful are:
Listening to music
Papering self
Having a bath
Exercise
Talking to people
Singing
Painting
Meeting friends
Little treats; shopping or chocolate
Writing things down when stressed
Reading a book or poetry

What is an eating disorder?
An eating disorder is a term used to include a range of different conditions where a person feels the need to control their food intake and to try to avoid gaining weight. People with eating disorders may try to control their appetite by cutting down on what they eat. Some may eat large amounts and then feel they have to get rid of it by making themselves sick or taking laxatives. Many people with eating disorders develop unhealthy eating habits that affect their health and their ability to leave their day-to-day lives normally.
Who can suffer from an eating disorder?
Eating disorders can develop in children, teenagers and adults. They can develop in males and females, from any racial background. The most common group to develop eating disorders are young women (the average age for bulimia nervosa to first develop is around 18 to 19 years of age, compared to 16 to 17 for anorexia nervosa). Having said this, we know that people can develop an...

What Do I Do If Someone Close To Me Suffers From Memory Problems?
If you suspect someone close to you has memory problems you will initially need to take them to see their GP. The GP will talk to the person and if necessary carry out basic memory testing, e.g. who the monarch is, the day and date and other questions along that theme. The GP may also do some blood tests and an ECG (recording of the heart) to make sure there are no physical problems that are causing the memory difficulties.
Following this, if the GP thinks it is appropriate, then he will make a referral to Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust’s Mental Health Services for Older People.
The referral will initially be discussed at the regular allocation meeting and the most appropriate professional will be allocated. In some cases, a Community Psychiatric Nurse or an Occupational Therapist will visit the person at home to carry out an assessment. In others cases the person will be offered an out patient...

Diet , Created 23 Apr 2008
Diet is one of the important building blocks of health; when we become unwell appetite diminishes, yet this is a time when our bodies require more nutrients from our diet. It is also a popular health promotion topic; everywhere seems to tell us that we need to eat "5 a day". I even saw it on the back of a bus recently.....

Freedom from stress , Created 13 Apr 2008
Anxiety can take several forms but is generally a feeling of distinct uneasiness that is characterised by both emotional and physical disturbances.
Emotional disturbance may include: feeling worried or uneasy, having difficulty sleeping and/or eating, and inability to concentrate.
Physical disturbances may include: increased heart rate and palpitations, dry mouth, increased perspiration, increased breathing and a need to run to the loo.
It is natural to feel anxious from time to time in reaction to demanding situations. Situations where we may feel anxious include exams; presentations; meeting deadlines; going on a first date; first day at university; first day at a new job. However, if this anxiety interferes with our day-to-day life or if we experience excessive anxiety due to a particular situation (e.g. one of the above situations or other(s)), then it may be causing us unnecessary difficulty. If this is happening to you then you may benefit from gaining assistance...
